James is a Central Coast local, having grown up in Matcham and East Gosford while attending Central Coast Grammar School. He has dedicated his time volunteering for different organisations and causes over the years, including Waves of Wisdom (WOW Girls), Dungog Music Festival, The Salvation Army, and The Rhythm Hut. In 2017 he graduated from University of Newcastle with a BBus (management) and LLB (hons), volunteering at the Wyong Community Legal Centre, Sydney’s Inner City Legal Centre, and accepting an executive medico-legal role for a national company. However, as a result of his negative experiences in the corporate world, James has decided on a big career change, devoting himself to his true passions; gardening, horticulture, sharing knowledge, and working outdoors. He has over 15 years of gardening and labouring experience from previous work as a contractor and is currently completing his Certificate III in Horticulture with TAFE Digital. James has a strong affinity for all fields of science with a growing interest in plant biology and chemistry. He is particularly interested in medicinal and edible plants, fungi, composting, and soil health. James will make a great addition to the horticulture and gardening industry as he is a natural born care giver and problem solver, with a thirst for knowledge. He is an effective communicator with strong planning and critical thinking skills. If he ever gets a spare moment, James also enjoys reading, bush walks, cooking, philosophy, yoga, and spending time with Lucy and their dogs, Benny and Bille.
Lucy was born in South Korea and raised in Sydney by her adoptive parents. After completing high school, she spent several years working and travelling overseas, experiencing different cultures and making lifelong connections with people all over the world. She has completed her Certificate II in animal studies (2013) and Certificate III in captive animals (2015) at Ultimo TAFE. With a clear passion for animals, Lucy has volunteered overseas in Thailand and Namibia with wildlife conservation programs, and worked at several vet clinics around Sydney, including a volunteer role at Taronga Zoo’s wildlife hospital. In 2020 she began studying a Certificate II in Horticulture to expand her knowledge to the plant kingdom, with a keen interest in garden design. She has always been an avid gardener and plant collector at home, mesmerised by the colours, patterns, and shapes of the botany world. She is particularly interested in propagation, native plants, and succulents. Lucy will make a wonderful addition to the horticulture and gardening world due to her kind nature, attention to detail, passion for flora and fauna, and enthusiasm to help others. In her spare time, Lucy also enjoys drawing and creating artworks, outdoor adventures, carbohydrates, and spending time with James and the dogs.
